<p>
    I wrote briefly about <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Days_of_the_New">Days
    of the New</a> as part of the background of my
    <glacius:link page="music/projects/astounded-solo">solo for Tantric's
    <em>Astounded</em></glacius:link>. I finally broke down and bought a <em>Days of the New</em>
    tab book on eBay, and the solo from their most famous song
    <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touch%2C_Peel_and_Stand"><em>Touch, Peel and Stand</em></a>
    is pretty fantastic. I'm not sure if Travis Meeks or Todd Whitener wrote it, but
    Todd Whitener performed it.
</p>
<p>
    Travis Meeks apparently praises the cymbal work of the drummer in this song, but
    in my opinon the bass really carries it. And the vocals. The guitars are actually
    pretty uninspired in this song, except the solo is quite bitchin'.

<h2>Recording</h2>
<p>
    I'm chewing gum in this, by the way. So that's why my mouth is moving during the
    strumming part when I no longer had to concentrate. I'm not a mental patient.
    Also, I think this is the third video to feature this sweatshirt&#x2026;
</p>
<p>
    And note that I'm playing this on a
    <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreadnought_(guitar_type)">Dreadnought</a> on a
    20-year-old $400 guitar with a two-inch action. So, you know, I did my best.
    You can watch Todd Whitener play this live in 1998
    <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkrNETAJepA">here</a> and be more impressed.

<p>
    This was my first recording using updated versions of Ardour and Hydrogen,
    as well as on the new (to me) <a href="https://ubuntustudio.org/">Ubuntu Studio</a>
    operating system, which is pretty neat.
