Stone Temple Pilots - Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart - Solo @ r2

This article is part 22 of 52 in the 2022 music project series.

Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart is a song with a long title off Stone Temple Pilots' 1996 album with an equally long title Tiny Music… Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop. I don't know what the song title means and I don't know what the album title means. But it's a pretty great solo.

In my copious collection of songbooks, I have two different notations of this song, one from the actual album's songbook, which is generally pretty poor, and one from their greatest hits album Thank You. I forgot I owned the Thank You book, so I was trying to piece together the inaccurate parts of the transcription from live performances and other places online, that had equally inaccurate transcriptions.

A more accurate transcription of the solo from the greatest hits songbook.

However, I was in too deep before I re-discovered my possession of the Thank You book, and I ended up just kind of making up some parts of the solo on my own. Specifically, the legato part near the end. I think my version sounds pretty cool, but I may be biased.
